I teach many classes and workshops in various painting media and techniques across the state of Oregon and sometimes Washington.

My methods are taught to students of all experience levels, from beginners who have never touched a paint brush to seasoned artists who hold regular exhibitions. It is never too early and it is never too late.

Check out my list of available classes and workshops below, or feel free to email or call me for more information. I’d love to hear from you.

About Painting en Plein Air in and around Portland, Oregon.

We’ve been painting on Friday afternoons year-round since 2003 in the greater Portland metro area. Each season has its special feeling, and certain locations open up in the Springtime that have been closed all winter. Looking back at some older paintings, I see some places we’ve forgotten about, and I’d like to return to some of those.

As always, I’ll guide you in the art of seeing, of designing a painting, color and color mixing, and getting it on the canvas successfully, all the while enjoying the process. Even when it’s frustrating. (My old painting buddy, Bill, used to say: If it’s not fun, you’re not doing it right.)

Feel free to reach out with any questions.

As one of us who cannot lay down a paintbrush for long, it is a blessing that I met Jef Gunn taking his college class in encaustic over 15 years ago. In multiple and varied painting classes, he has freed me from many goblins of uncertainty and so ushered me to the muses of uncertainty, helping me discover they are sometimes indistinguishable. Truly good art is about contemplation—especially if the hand moves quickly. Jef can help you flush out some of those peregrines of spirit.
